Bones and joints
- Knees
- I have always had sensitive knees, I have fallen on it many times and also hit my knees a lot
- after a long bike ride, I start to suffer from moisture in my knees
- an X-ray in 2021 found 'Baker cysts' in both backs of my knees
- a medical examination in December 2022, including my means of MRI, revealed the following:
- inflammation of the fat bodies above and below my kneecap in both knees (Fat pad impingement)
- discomfort to pain in the attachment between the thigh muscles and tendons around the kneecap
- discomfort to pain under the kneecap ('Flap tear'), which feels like Osteoarthritis complaints
- my solutions:
- daily nutritional supplements that help with inflammation and joint complaints: Cat's Claw, Horsetail, Bamboo, Boswellia
- my solutions:
- Back
- I have a predisposition to Scoliosis, which makes that one leg longer than the other (and also one foot larger than the other)
- I once had Sciatica and always have to think about my posture when standing and sitting, and have to use a lumbar pillow
- I have always had a sensitive lower back (I suffered more from it during menstrual periods)
- my solution(s):
- I use a special lumbar cushion on my chair every day (which I can also take with me if I am going to sit somewhere for a longer period of time), I once bought this cushion through a Manual therapist
- I do special exercises every day (with a gymnastic ball and a yoga mat) to keep my back strong and flexible
- sometimes I visit the Manual therapist for extra support
- my solution(s):
- Feet
- Since 2021 I have had tendon plate calcification in both my feet
- I need support under the arch of my foot, otherwise I tend to collapse with my feet (resulting in all kinds of physical complaints)
- my solution(s):
- I received special insoles from the Podiatrist that help quite a bit and I wear shoes with a lot of cushioning in the soles. Both the insoles and my shoes also support the arch of my foot
- My favorite shoe brand is Skechers D'Luxe Walker
- my solution(s):
- Hands and fingers
- I have been suffering from stiffness in my fingers and wrists for a number of years
- coloring (which I have started doing since 2020) is quite a challenge, also for the impaired motor skills I have
- sometimes I get a twinge of pain in one of my fingers or in my wrist
- my solution(s):
- I move my fingers as much as possible throughout the day to keep them flexible and strong
- in case of severe pain and in any case on cold days, I wear (special) gloves with the fingertips open
- my solution(s):
- Shoulders, neck and head
- I sometimes forget to have a good posture and bend my shoulders too far forward
- over the past few years (during which I have had to deal with a lot), I have developed several complaints in my shoulders (knots), neck (creaking, snapping and stiffness) and head (tapping and nagging pain in the skull)
- since childhood, I have been prone to various types of headaches
- my solution(s):
- when working on my laptop, my forearms always rest on a special gel cushion
- when working on my phone (like playing games), I ensure that the phone is tilted in front of me and supported against, for example, a glasses case (when I am at home I always use the special gel cushion that I use with my laptop)
- my solution(s):
- Other things that help(ed):
- Shiatsu therapy
- Rolfing fascia (connective tissue) massage treatment
- Physio/manual therapy
- massage cushion for my back and neck/head
- foot massage device
- daily exercises (stretching and Pilates/yoga) on a gymnastic ball and a yoga mat
- rub all my joints with a supporting cream, jelly or (neutral) oil
